Research on Extraction of Insect Pheromones
Pheromones are found in all living organisms and are mainly used for detecting the presence of similar species. Pheromones are also used for a variety of purposes from setting a trail, to marking territory and attracting the opposite sex. There has been a huge amount of research done on extraction of insect pheromones and here is how the insects use it and sometimes humans too.
The Use of Extraction of Insect Pheromones
A common use of extraction of insect pheromones by humans is to trap and kill them. Therefore, you will find them widely sold in pesticides, grain and chemicals that can be sprayed as and when you desire.
Insects use pheromones to communicate with one another. For example, ants use them to set a trail; you must have noticed how they follow each other’s steps exactly and that is because they sense the pheromones and not because they see each other.
Other Purposes for the Extraction of Insect Pheromones
Extraction of insect pheromones from bees can be found in the wax that makes candles and honey or other products that human beings eat to enhance their own immune system and/or senses. Insects, just like animals use pheromones to attract the opposite sex and reproduce as well as marking their eggs or their hive, in the case of bees and ants and also their territory as is the case of other animals.
Other Uses of Pheromones
Humans use pheromones to induce different types of moods and state of mind in the form of perfume, scented candles and/or perfumed body lotions. The pheromones used by human beings are not extracted from insects or animals but they are found naturally in plants and flowers that are used to produce perfumes.
Human beings, like all other living organisms have distinct scents that can also be recognized by those who are in close touch with the person. The pheromones in human beings interact with other substances found in the air or applied on the skin and bring out the unique scent that each one of us have and cannot erase by using a chemical.
Helpful Tip
Pheromones are released in the air and can usually be sensed by the same species only. Due to the fact that pheromones are largely connected to attracting the opposite sex, they are sometimes marketed by perfume manufacturers as being irresistible. You may even find them sold as pheromones on the internet but the fact remains that there are no pheromones available - whether extracted from insects, plants or animals - that can be applied on by humans in order to attract one another.
